Built between 1787 and 1789. After the Lazzaretto was completed, Porta Pia represented a monumental entrance to the town, along the coastal road, requested by Pope Pius VI. The Istrian stone face towards the sea is richer in detail than the rustication of the blocks of Filippo Marchionni, the son of Carlo Marchionni, still bears its Baroque shapes and has an impressive grandeur that emhatises its dual meaning, a symbol of connections and the defence of the entrance to the town.
